Emergencies such as colic or an injury are not included here unless you set aside a reserve. Ask your insurance company what it will cover in an emergency.
Priceless: your horse
Some things cannot be calculated in euros. If you want to put your horse on the wall, your favorite photo becomes a portrait.

Start with the stable. Whether it's an open stable, a box with a paddock or a boarding stable with full service: ask exactly what is included in the price. Hay, bedding, grazing, mucking, feeding on weekends, hall and space. What is not there belongs in the other fields.
The farrier comes at regular intervals. Enter the price per appointment and the distance in weeks; the calculator will calculate this into a monthly amount. At 8 weeks apart, that's 6.5 appointments per year.
At the vet you expect the routine items: vaccinations, dental checks, worming or stool samples. You will decide with your veterinary practice which of these your horse needs and how often. You enter the annual contributions for the insurance companies, for example for horse liability insurance and surgical or health insurance.
Don't forget the reserve
One field is voluntary, but important: the reserve. Colic, a hoof ulcer or lameness come without notice. If you set aside a fixed amount every month, you won't come under pressure as quickly in an emergency. How high the reserve should be depends on your insurance and your horse.
Why we don't show average prices
Prices for stables, farriers and veterinarians can vary greatly between towns and cities, between regions and between types of husbandry. An average would be of little help to you in your own planning. That's why this tool only calculates with your numbers. You can find a classification in the article How much does a horse cost per month?, and if you are still before buying, the Checklist for buying a horse will help.
The horse weight calculator shows how much hay your horse needs at least. This will help you if you buy hay yourself.
Frequently asked questions about horse costs
How much does a horse cost per month?
This mainly depends on where and how your horse is standing. Enter the prices from your stable, your farrier, your veterinary practice and your insurance, then the calculator will show you your monthly and annual costs.
What costs should I not forget about horses?
In addition to the stable and food: the farrier at fixed intervals, vaccinations, dental checks, worming or stool samples, liability insurance, equipment that wears out over time, and a reserve for emergencies.
How do I calculate the farrier costs per month?
Price per appointment times 52, divided by the distance in weeks, gives the annual costs. Divide by 12 to get the monthly amount. At 60 euros every 8 weeks, that's 390 euros a year or 32.50 euros a month.
